The Harford County ARES / RACES team attended the National Weather Service’s SKYWARN class on March 8, 2026 at the Harford County Emergency Operations Center, training citizens from across the region to become weather spotters. While the NWS relies on radar in storm forecasting, spotters are the eyes to the weather on the ground and provide information in a timely fashion. The NWS uses that information to generate storm warnings or to keep existing warnings going. It’s all part of the NWS’ effort to get information to cities, states and local jurisdictions – like Harford – to keep the community safe.
