DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, March 20\, 2024\n\nWe are pleased to announce the next class in a series of simple\, ham-related\, electronic projects\, presented by one of our members\, Dixon Barthel K3WNS. The project for this session is  a continuation  of the use of the Arduino use in amateur radio and related topics.  \nFor those who have missed the previous sessions\, we talked about the basics like Ohm’s law\, inductors\, capacitors\, transistors\, and the like. All the notes from those sessions are available. We also played with Arduino and PIC projects. The previous class introduced Arduino code and simple circuit. Other classes discussed simple\, practical code oscillators\, the workings of an ammeter and a voltmeter. \nThis class is on Wednesday\, March 20\, 2024\, Currently (though we may change) the meetings are held at the Department of Emergency Services at 2220 Ady Road\, Forest Hill\, MD 21050\,  just north of Conowingo Road (see the tall tower and you’re there). We’re meeting in room 106. Just ask the attendant where to go and log in. We meet every other Wednesday at 6:30pm in the evening and go to about 8:30pm. No charge. \nFor your part\, you’ll need an Arduino board\, breadboard\, some LEDs\, some resistors\, and some capacitors. You’ll also need a power supply to provide 9-12 volts to your board. \nWe just want to help folks know how to do stuff. Attendees’ may be (but do not have to be) be a member of Harford County ARES/RACES\, or can hold or are interested in getting an amateur FCC radio license. Thank you. \nNOTE: This month’s meeting will contain a SKYWARN foundation class\,free of charge. Please see the information below. You must register for the class if you intend to come. \nThe NWS has scheduled a SKWARN Basics class for Thursday\, May 7\, from 7PM to 9PM at the Harford County Department of Emergency Services in Forest Hill\, MD (2220 Ady Road\, Forest Hill\, MD 21050.   \nThis course is a prerequisite for all other courses\, except Flood. Basics is a good general overview of what it means to be a spotter as well as the basics of the different weather phenomenon that impacts the Mid-Atlantic. Upon completion of the course\, you will be registered in the program by the NWS. You will receive a spotter code from the NWS within a couple of weeks. The Basics class includes: \n\nThe Basic Organization of the National Weather Service\nThe Role and Importance of the SKYWARN Spotter\nReporting of Hazardous Weather\nThunderstorm\, Flooding\, Tropical and Winter Weather Threats\nThe Role of Amateur Short-wave (HAM) Radio in the Spotter Program\n\nThis class is offered at no charge but registration is required. A link to register can be found at\nSKYWARN Registration Class Link \nSKYWARN is an important part of the NWS’s severe weather alerting program and hams are an important part of SKYWARN. \nHow to join SKYWARN \nis a program of the United States National Weather Service (NWS).  It’s mission is to collect reports of localized severe weather.  These reports are used to aid forecasters in issuing and verifying severe watches and warnings\, improve weather forecasting\, and the tools used to collect meteorological data.  It consists of a network of SKYWARN Spotters who observe weather conditions and make reports of severe weather to their local NWS offices. \nhttps://www.weather.gov/skywarn \nOpen to All Amateur Radio Operators!\nHarford County SKYWARN uses the 146.775 (-) tone 146.2 RACES repeater when activated. You do not need to have SKYWARN training or have a Spotter ID to participate.  All licensed amateur radio operators are welcome to call in your weather reports regardless of training or experience. \n  \n  \n
